Happy weekend, Snippetteers. I’ve only just managed to catch up reading last week’s snippets. It’s been a rough week and I haven’t felt like it 😦 I mentioned last week that my mum was awaiting test results. Well, she has stage 3 ovarian cancer and is awaiting a date for major surgery. I’m not sure how I feel at the moment – sort of in shock. I’m going to see her today. We don’t live that close so it’s not like I can pop around every few days although we talk on the phone all the time and email. It’s a very worrying time.

My snippet is more from Favourite Toy 2. Ryan has been out alone for the first time in more than a year, and had a one-night stand. Best mate Dean is pleased for him, but new housemate Remy seems awkward and sad.

(Remy says) “Did you have a good night? Dean said you were going to a club. Would you rather we’d all gone out together? Maybe we should have gone out to celebrate me leaving the other house.”
“Yes and no,” I said.
“Huh?” Remy passed me my refilled coffee mug and sat down.
“Yes, I had a good night, and no, I wouldn’t have preferred us all to go out together.”
“Oh. Okay. Did you meet someone?” He bit his lip and lowered his eyes.
“No one important.”
“You dog.” Dean came in and slapped me on the shoulder. “Did you fuck in the toilet, or go to his place?”
“Um, his place.” I picked up my coffee, annoyed by the sudden heat in my face.
“Come on, then. Who is he? One night, or the next two or three weeks’ dates?”
“Guy named P.J. We’re not dating.” I grunted the words, uncomfortable and wishing he would drop it. I couldn’t bring myself to look at Remy. He didn’t know us that well, and I didn’t know how he would take this banter. He’d just escaped from a house full of guys who slept their way around London and tried to drag him into their activities. He may worry I’d behave in the same way.
