Happy weekend, Snippetteers! I hope you have a better week than me – mine was stressful and depressing, I couldn’t be bothered to do things I enjoy to take my mind off it, and generally felt fed up But Friday was much better, work was better, and I can now enjoy my weekend. Not much planned for this weekend, but I am going to the cinema on Sunday to see the latest Jurassic Park movie 🙂
In my snippet from Summit this week, Ash and Sean begin to experience symptoms of hiking at extreme altitude.

When we set off again, I noticed slight breathlessness for the first time. My lungs laboured as if I’d been running, despite the slow pace. My chest burned and I gobbled a couple of Rennies for the heartburn, guessing it must be the result of starting walking right after eating, even though our pace could hardly be described as vigorous.
“Are you okay?” Sean asked from behind me.
“What pills are you taking?”
“Oh.” He paused to draw a long breath. “I have heartburn, too. It’s one of the side effects of Diamox when you start taking it. I read about it.”
“Okay. Do you want some Rennies?”
“No, I’m okay.” Sean moved to walk at my side as the path opened out onto a wider dusty track. “I feel a bit light-headed, though.”
“Shall I get Mark?”
“No. It’s nothing.”
I immediately forgot about my heartburn and breathlessness and watched Sean’s every move from the corner of my eye. His pace slowed more, and he stared at the ground rather than looking around him and pulling out his camera every five minutes as he had done previously. When we stopped for the next break, he sat on a rock and didn’t speak.
“How do you feel?”
“I’m okay. A bit dizzy.”
“You should drink more. And eat something.”
Sean grimaced. “No way can I eat anything.”
“Right.” I dumped my backpack on the ground and stepped into the bushes to have a quick pee, then caught Mark’s attention where he stood talking to Darren. He came over immediately. “Sean’s light-headed and dizzy,” I told him. “I don’t think he’s drinking enough and he won’t eat either.” Just as I finished speaking, Sean turned away and coughed up a small amount of liquid. Mark went to him immediately and I backed away, although I hovered close enough to listen in.
