Happy weekend, Snippetteers! I hope you’ve all had a good week. Mine has been very busy with work, but there is also writing news. I will soon have a release date for Summit! My cover is being designed at the moment and as soon as it’s ready I can announce the release. I just need to do a final few tweaks and format it and we’re there!
This week’s snippet, is, of course, from Summit. Last week Ash panicked and ruined the moment between him and Sean. I’ll leave you wondering how it worked out for them and skip forward a couple of weeks to Ash and Sean’s first night in Tanzania. They and their fellow trekkers gather in the hotel garden the night before their adventure begins.

Darkness was falling by the time we joined our fellow trekkers in the hotel garden. Smoke from a large fire pit drifted over the circle of chairs where most of the others were seated, and hotel staff manned a barbecue, the delicious smells of assorted meats and spices wafting towards us on the light breeze.
“Sorry we’re late,” Sean said sheepishly as he slid into one of the empty chairs in the circle.
“No problem.” Phil smiled at us. “Did you bring your holdalls with you?”
I nodded. “They’re over there on the grass with the others.”
“Great. We’ll check those in a little while. We’re just having an introductory chat. We haven’t started yet.”
A couple of others who were fiddling with their holdalls joined the group and as each person introduced themselves, I was reminded of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting I’d seen on TV. When it came to me I couldn’t resist. “My name is Ash, I’m from Stamford, and I’m an alcoholic.”
“Ah, a comedian!” Phil exclaimed, while most people in the group laughed.
“Sorry.” I suppressed a snort and Sean elbowed me.
“Don’t be sorry. We like high spirits, especially on the mountain when we’ve been hiking for, oh, eight hours or so and we’re all tired. You can keep us going,” Phil teased.

I’m pretty sure I would have thought the same thing. Not so sure I would have said anything 😀

What Nephy said!
And I hate those “let’s go around the room/circle/firepit and introduce ourselves” things.

Hahaha…Now I’m wondering what Sean and Ash were up to that made them late. 😉

I would have been deliberately late, so I didn’t have to do the whole chitchat thing… 😉

I admittedly had to look up holdalls – never heard the term before. Learn something new every day. Oh, and who doesn’t hate those around the room, table, fire, whatever intro thingies?
