Happy weekend, Snippetteers! I’m afraid I’m rather late this week. I’ve been struck down with “man flu” and feeling that rough for the past few days, turning on the computer was too much like hard work and I’ve just been checking things on my phone. Yesterday I went to check out a new motorcycle I wanted to buy, and paid a deposit, but the journey wiped me out, so I did nothing for the rest of the day except sprawl on the sofa reading my Kindle.
Anyhoo… If you’re new to Rainbow Snippets, authors post links to 6-line teasers from LGBT+ stories with a wide variety of themes. They could be WIPs, published works, recommendations etc. Check out the group HERE and you might find your next favourite read.
It’s only 10 days until the release of The Short Stories Collection and this week I have another teaser from story number 2, One Snowy Night. Keith Brambles crashed his car in the snow and his knight in a shining white van has come to rescue him. Mike Talbot is full of surprises when Keith blurts out more than he means to.

“So, what are you doing out here, driving in these conditions?”
“I, um, I went to meet a friend in Lincoln. It wasn’t snowing when I set off.”
“A friend? You mean a date?”
“Yeah.”
“What’s he doing letting you drive home in this shit? Couldn’t you stay over?” Mike’s brows furrowed and my eyes widened. Appearances certainly could be deceptive. White Van Man, big, bearded, and apparently tattooed, didn’t seem to care that I was gay. I silently reprimanded myself again for stereotyping him.
“Well, he, um—” I paused and shrugged. “It was a first date. He was only interested because of who I am.”
“That must be a pain in the arse. Do you get that a lot?”
“More often than not.”
“Maybe you’re looking in the wrong place, or for the wrong type of guy. You should try one who’s not into your music, and you might have better luck.” He grinned and winked. “Where do you live?”
“Um…” For a moment, I couldn’t remember. The conversation had surprised and distracted me too much. “Alford.”

If you want to see how Keith and Mike get on, The Short Stories Collection is available for pre-order, out on 31 January.
Excellent dialogue! I’m right there with the main character in trying not to stereotype and being surprised/impressed by his companion’s answers.
