Rainbow Snippets – June 17, 2017

Happy weekend, everyone. It’s a scorcher here in the UK, 28 degrees at the moment! I love the hot weather, although sometimes it’s too hot to be practical – like when I went running this morning at 7am and it was baking hot then!

Anyway, welcome to another Rainbow Snippet. I’ll be absent next week, as I’m going to Wales for 5 days on a climbing training trip, but I’ll try to catch up with everyone else’s snippets when I get back. I doubt I will have wifi as I’m staying in a youth hostel the first night, and camping for the rest of the trip.

If you’re new to Rainbow Snippets, this is the group where authors post links to 6-line teasers from LGBTQIA stories, so don’t forget to check out the rest HERE when you’ve read mine. You might find your next favourite read.

I have another snippet from Cervena this week. Last week Sasha burst into tears when he had to admit to new boss, Joel, that Sasha was not his real name. Why was he crying?

Snippet

“Sorry. I’m sorry.” He took the tissues, wiped his eyes, and blew his nose loudly. “I have a sister. Twelve years old. She called me Sasha because she could never pronounce my real name when she was little. My name is Stanislav Vasilievich.” He placed his passport on the desk.

“God, Sasha. I’m sorry. You must miss her. I have a younger sister, too, in England. I’m English.”

“Do you see her at all?”

“Yes, we’re pretty close. She’s married with an eight-year-old daughter. They live in London. I did, too, until ten years ago.”

Blurb

When Joel Jones finds homeless Russian, Sasha, outside his gay nightclub in Prague, he cannot find it in his heart to turn him away, so he offers him a home and a job as a dancer and stripper.

Despite a fifteen-year age gap, romance develops between them, but is interrupted when Joel has to return to England for many weeks to deal with a death in the family.

Upon Joel’s return, he is horrified to discover his business partner, Karel, has gambled away the club’s money and put them all at risk. Joel buys him out of the club, but when Karel continues to gamble, the people he owes pursue Joel for the debt instead—and they’ll stop at nothing to get paid.

Suddenly Joel and those he cares about—especially Sasha—are in danger, and Joel finds himself with no choice but to seek the help of known criminal, Vincenc Jankovic. Ensuring a happy future for himself and Sasha will mean a struggle and some difficult decisions, but Joel is determined to protect what they’ve built together.
