Happy weekend, Snippetteers! It’s another 3-day weekend here in the UK, so I’m looking forward to spending a couple of days hiking. Unfortunately it’s not feasible for me to go to my favourite haunt in the Lake District, but I live very close to Rutland Water which has three routes – a circuit of the lake (15 miles), the peninsula (7 miles) or the whole thing. I’m doing the lake circuit on Sunday and the peninsula with an extra bit, making it 10 miles, on Monday. I think I’ll have stiff legs on Tuesday!
Anyway, back to my snippet. It’s more from Separation this week, and then next week I’ll be posting a teaser from one of my older stories.
In last week’s snippet, Matt and Tremaine kissed and loved it, and mentally beat themselves up for it. More happens between them, and later that night, when they try to sleep in their separate rooms, Tremaine questions everything and tries to make sense of his feelings.
I lay awake for hours, going over in my mind what had happened that day and what might happen in the future. I hadn’t wanted to think about the law when Matt mentioned it, but there was no doubt if we continued down the path we’d started on, we’d be breaking it. I hated to let the word “incest” creep into my mind. Somehow the word made my love for Matt and his for me seem more wrong. I told myself the law was the way it was to prevent siblings of opposite sexes bringing inbred children into the world, and it wasn’t like that was going to happen with us. So how wrong could it be? If we loved each other and made each other happy. If no one knew, who would it hurt? Why should we suffer by staying away from each other?
Matthew Langford is told on his twenty-first birthday that he has a twin. After the initial shock, he quickly realizes this is why he always felt part of him was missing. His search takes him 200 miles to Devon, UK, where he meets fraternal twin, Tremaine Wheal.
The pair discover many things in common, and quickly become as close as if they’d never been separated. But when they share a moment in a nightclub, each realizes there is more between them than having shared a womb. Panic sets in and they part. Once again their separation brings loneliness and pain.
Eventually, unable to stay away from each other, they tentatively move forward together as lovers. But secrets don’t stay secret for long, and discovery and questions threaten their happiness.
This is a taboo story featuring twins.
