Hello, Snippetteers! Hope you all had a good week. It’s been quite stressful at “Lyonsville” – work has been manically busy, and as I had last Friday and this Monday off, I had some catching up to do. Last week was OH’s Dad’s funeral and BIL stayed with us for nearly a week, which was great. We had some nice times, went out for a meal, went to look around a pretty town and had some lovely coffees, and caught up on lots of chatter.
Anyhoo… welcome to this week’s snippet. Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where authors post links to 6-line teasers from WIPs, published works, or recommendations, all from stories with LGBTQI characters. Check out the group HERE if you’re new to it, and you’re bound to find some great reads.
My snippet last week from Separation saw Matt discovering Tam had been sketching him, and Tam’s reaction to Matt seeing the pictures wasn’t favourable. This week’s snippet continues on from where I left off. If you missed last week’s, you can read it HERE.
In case you don’t know anything about Separation, it’s a taboo story featuring twins.
Blurb
Matthew Langford is told on his twenty-first birthday that he has a twin. After the initial shock, he quickly realizes this is why he always felt part of him was missing. His search takes him 200 miles to Devon, UK, where he meets fraternal twin, Tremaine Wheal.
The pair discover many things in common, and quickly become as close as if they’d never been separated. But when they share a moment in a nightclub, each realizes there is more between them than having shared a womb. Panic sets in and they part. Once again their separation brings loneliness and pain.
Eventually, unable to stay away from each other, they tentatively move forward together as lovers. But secrets don’t stay secret for long, and discovery and questions threaten their happiness.
This is a taboo story featuring twins.
Snippet
He shrugged and released a long, ragged breath. “I’d rather you didn’t look through my stuff without asking.”
“I’m sorry.” There was more to it than me looking at his work; there had to be. What was I missing? He seemed so upset as he pushed the remaining sketches to the back of the drawer and closed it. His throat moved as he gulped audibly, and I felt his unhappiness and discomfort as if it were my own. I grasped his arm and tugged him toward me, intent on giving him a brief hug. I didn’t know what else to do. Chris had always said I was useless when it came to offering comfort.

I really love this whole scene. (Including last week’s snippet.) And I can totally relate — I’m awkward at offering comfort too.

Same here. I’m bad at offering comfort so I kind of feel what he feels… Alas! I haven’t reached this place in the book yet. Lots of stuff to do but I’m really dream of a quiet evening with Separation and a cup of tea.

Love it. Now I want to know what happens after the hug.

Very emotional – his frustration and need to comfort come across very clearly in just a few sentences.

I can totally relate. I feel discomfort and unhappiness like that too from people close to me. Like it’s penetrating into my very soul. Not fun.

A lovely snippet. And that hug? Either a good or a very bad idea given the circumstances he has no idea about

Gotta say, I’d go nuts if someone was looking through my creative stuff without asking first.

Not easy, working out exactly what someone else needs. It comes across very well.
