Rainbow Snippets – January 14, 2017

Happy weekend, Snippetteers! I hope you all survived Friday the 13th without any mishaps, and are all ready for some great snippets.

The Rainbow Snippets group is for authors to post links to 6-line teasers from WIPs, published works, or recommendations of LGBTQI stories. Check out the group and you’ll find lots of great reads there.

I have one final snippet from my new sci-fi romance, Regeneration. You all know it’s finally ready for release, and if you’ve enjoyed my snippets from it over the past few months, you’ll be able to grab a copy on January 15 🙂

In the 23rd Century in the galaxy of Sigma Kappa, Kim Fortune was the first surviving experimental enhanced human—a regenerate. Aged fifteen, he escaped the lab and years later, his failings as a regenerate and the suspicion of regular humans, leave him lonely and lacking in self-worth. Stranded on an abandoned planet, the arrival of a stricken ship and its crew give him hope that he may finally find what he always longed for—love.

Christian Novak is a successful regenerate with all the intended attributes—including lack of human emotion. Despite their immediate attraction to each other, Kim’s failing confidence, and Christian’s inability to empathize are a recipe for disaster. But war, imprisonment, and danger throw them together, and after each saves the other’s life, their feelings begin to change.

Can a seemingly unsuitable pair ever find love, or is a future together destined to fail?

Last week the snippet included Kim and Novak’s first kiss. This is quite a bit later in the story, after the group of people have arrived on the inhospitable planet of S.K.100, a.k.a Immortasia. What is Novak planning on shooting Kim with?

I unlocked the door and pulled it open. Novak was still bare-chested, but wearing clean combats. His short hair was damp from the shower, and the scent of soap almost drowned out the natural musky smell of him. “How’d you know where to find me?”

“Kim, come on. There are six rooms here. It wasn’t that hard to figure out after I knocked on Susan’s door and got told to fuck off.” He grinned wryly. “I brought you something.”

He held one hand behind his back. “Something you need. Gonna let me in?”

I took a step back and pulled the door wider. He walked past me and sat on the edge of the bed, placing what looked like a small gun on the mattress. I closed the door again. “What’s that? Planning on shooting me?”

“Hah. Yeah, I am. Come here.”

      1. It is – Novak’s not brilliant with innuendo, lol. Kim’s about to get shot full of a healing drug that will knock him out for several hours.
