Happy weekend, Snippetteers! I hope you’re having a good one.
Yesterday was my work Christmas party, so I’m feeling quite tired today. We don’t get your regular dinner and drinks Christmas party where I work. We were taken first class on the train to London, drinks in a bar, amazing and VERY expensive meal in a fabulous restaurant, Bob Bob Ricard, then a comedy club in the KU Bar, then drinks in the Porterhouse pub before the first class train home. So I rolled in about 1.30am by the time I’d got a taxi back from the railway station.
Anyway… back to this week’s snippet. I have more from Regeneration for you, and at the bottom there are links to the entire first chapter, posted in 5 parts in another free reads group I’m part of.
When you’ve read the latest from Kim and Christian, check out the other author’s great snippets in the Rainbow Snippets Group.
In the 23rd Century in the galaxy of Sigma Kappa, Kim Fortune was the first surviving experimental enhanced human—a regenerate. Aged 15, he escaped the lab and years later, his failings as a regenerate and the suspicion of regular humans, leave him lonely and lacking in self-worth. Stranded on an abandoned planet, the arrival of a stricken ship and its crew give him hope that he may finally find what he always longed for—love.
Christian Novak is a successful regenerate with all the intended attributes—including lack of human emotion. Despite their immediate attraction to each other, Kim’s failing confidence, and Christian’s inability to empathize are a recipe for disaster. But war, imprisonment, and danger throw them together, and after each saves the other’s life, their feelings begin to change.
Can a seemingly unsuitable pair ever find love, or is a future together destined to fail?
This is from Chapter 3. Kim has taken the decision on where the group will go when they leave Pardus. They’ll be traveling in his ship after all, so that makes him captain. Novak, Kim, and Dina discuss.

“You don’t mind going with us, do you?” Dina asked Novak. “I mean, maybe you’d rather go somewhere else.”
“No, we’ll make sure you get home safe first,” Novak replied. “I’ll be heading out to S.K.1 later.”
“What’s there?” I asked.
“A little recreation. Maybe you could come along.”
“I don’t think so.” I shook my head and picked up my coffee.
“Well, if you change your mind…” Novak shoveled the rest of his food rapidly down his throat, gulped his coffee, and got up. “I’m gonna take a shower.”
